Motospeed Inflictor CK104 Mechanical Keyboard Review

Since my review of the Gigaware K28 Mechanical Keyboard, I was intrigued by how mechanical keyboards have become cheaper while still being fairly decent. So I’ve decided that I will continue to review mechanical keyboards in the budget category.

And with the perfect timing, gearbest.com reached out to me and ask me if I’m interested to review one of their gaming peripherals and of course, I said yes. I picked the Motospeed CK104 Mechanical Keyboard and today, we’re going to take a look at it and see what it’s all about.

FULL REVIEW

Design and Construction

In terms of design, the Motospeed CK104 is quite unusual for a full-size keyboard, in a sense that there’s no space in between the function keys and the number keys making it slimmer than most full-size keyboard. This may or may not be an issue depending on your preference. Personally, I kinda like this form factor because as you can see, it saves a lot of space while still maintaining all 104 keys.
The fonts used on this keyboard is pretty standard for most budget keyboards on this price range. It has that gamery look to it with custom labels from numbers 1-5 for some preset lighting that we’re going to talk more about later.

With regards to the construction, it’s built pretty solid with little to no flex across the board thanks to its aluminum backplate. It also has a decent heft to it that makes it feel more durable.

At the back, we have two adjustable stands that I’m very glad to say, has rubber feet on it. Directly below them are additional two rubber feet to make this keyboard stay in place.

Back to the front, as I’ve mentioned it has a brushed aluminum backplate that does help reflect the LED lights a bit.

At the top right corner, we have the Motospeed logo and LED indicators for num lock, scroll lock, caps lock, and windows key lock.

As I’ve mentioned, there’s no space between the function keys and the number keys, while it may save some space it also does require some time to get used to, I sometimes hit the function keys while trying to reach for the backspace for example. But after a while, I got used to it.

The cable is unfortunately not braided but it does have a velcro strap for cable management.

Lighting Effects

Moving on to the lighting effects, the Motospeed has 9 different lighting effects, but what’s cool about this is that it also has an option to set your custom lighting configurations that you can store to numbers 1-5.

But before that, let’s discuss the basics first:

To turn off the light, Press FN+PS

To toggle in between the 9 presets, Press FN+Ins
To change colors, Press FN+Del
To change speed, Press left and right arrow keys
To change brightness, Press up and down arrow keys
To Reset the keyboard, Press FN+Esc

NOTE: Watch the video at the end of this article to see the actual lighting modes

Now, you can record your own lighting presets by pressing FN+Numbers 1-5 (you can record up to 5 different presets), and then press FN+HM to start recording. While recording the LED indicators on the top right corner will start flashing, while on recording mode, start pressing the keys that you want to light up, you can choose to change the colors for each key by pressing it multiple times. And once you’re done recording your own lighting preset, press FN+HM to finish the recording. Now, everytime you hit FN+Number of your recording, it will show your own preset.

The only downside that I can see with regards to the RGB lighting is that it’s not complete, the lights are a combination of the primary colors, and I was bummed out that I can’t set a true orange color for my theme. Other than that, the lighting modes are still well appreciated.

Keycaps, Switches and Typing Experience

The Motospeed Inflictor CK104 uses Doubleshot ABS plastic for its keycaps with cherry MX compatible stems.
motospeed ck104 review
It’s not the best in terms of quality but it’s what we usually see in this price range so it is what it is. Besides, we can always grab a set of Custom Doubleshot PBT Keycaps if we want to.

With regards to the switch used on this keyboard, It has a very decent Outemu blue switch. It’s way better compared to the content blue switch that can be found on the inexpensive Gigaware K28 that I recently reviewed as well.

The Outemu blue switch requires 60g of actuation force and for me personally, it’s pretty easy to type with. It’s also not as loud as the content blue switch which I personally prefer.

Overall, the typing experience on this is very decent, I’m actually typing this article using this keyboard.

Other Features and Gaming Performance

The Motospeed Inflictor CK104 features NKRO (N-Key Rollover) with Anti-Ghosting which means you can pretty much press multiple keys simultaneously without conflicts and without unwanted keys being registered. I tested that out using the Aqua Key Tester and I was able to confirm those features. These features are vital for gaming, especially RPG games like Dota 2 or even fast-paced FPS games like CS: Go where you need to quickly press multiple keys probably at the same time.

I’ve been using this keyboard for a few days now and I didn’t encounter any issues while gaming on CS: Go, the keys are very easy to actuate and registers input quite accurately.

Playing RPG games like Dota 2 and in this case, Torchlight II is also a decent experience, no issues whatsoever. Every keypress registered as it should be and there are no other unwanted keys being registered.

VERDICT

Will I Recommend This? Yes!

In conclusion, for the price of just around 50 US dollars, you’re going to get a decent mechanical keyboard with a known and decent Outemu blue switch. It has a ton of lighting modes and the ability to set your custom lighting is also a nice bonus. But what’s important here is the typing experience and gaming performance which for me personally is very good. The design is simple and the form factor is subject for discussion, but if you’re looking for a full sized keyboard with a slim profile then this is a good option.
