As most of us know, ASUS and the Republic of Gamers (ROG) have a long-running tradition of giving
back to the community by hosting a promotional event called “ROG Share”. During a limited time,
consumers can take advantage of generous bundled items for each purchase of ASUS, ROG, or TUF
Gaming laptops. And sometimes, it’s super easy to get overwhelmed and get confused about what to
choose, especially the fact that most of these laptops offer similar hardware specifications inside. But as we
all know, not all laptops are made the same. Some are geared more towards serious competitive gamers,
some are for casual gamers and content creators, some are for younger generations and others are
specifically made for portability and ease of use. So in today’s article, let me give you a better
understanding of how to choose the best ASUS gaming laptop depending on your needs, preferences,
and in relation to your budget.
Before we start, let me share with you a quick rundown of the differences between ROG’s Gaming Laptop Lineup so that you can easily narrow down your choices. But if you’re already well informed about that and you just want to get my recommendations, skip to this part.
Alright, so If you’re looking for an esports and competitive gaming-centric laptop, the ROG Strix Scar series should be on top of your list. Featuring the latest Intel processors partnered with highly capable and reliable NVIDIA GeForce RTX Graphics with direct GPU mode, and a high refresh rate display with up to a whopping 360hz, the ROG Strix Scar lineup will definitely give you that competitive edge.
On the other hand, if you’re serious about gaming but prefer a gaming laptop with an AMD processor, the Strix G series is the way to go. Same with the ROG Strix Scar, the Strix G lineup also features NVIDIA GeForce RTX Graphics with the same MUX switch for direct GPU mode and also boasts a high refresh rate display of up to 360hz.
Now, aside from the ROG Strix Scar and G series, ROG also has a slew of gaming laptops that caters to gamers on the go prioritizing portability and style with the ROG Zephyrus lineup.
If you’re looking for an all-AMD laptop that features probably the most aesthetically pleasing look, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is one of the best out in the market. Its popularity is widely known not only from my own circle of friends but to the entire world wide web. The ROG Zephyrus G14 features the latest AMD processors and graphics and still pretty decent gaming displays in a very stylish thin and light form factor.
And to make it even better, ROG also has the Zephyrus G15 with a good combination of the latest AMD processor and powerful and efficient NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics. Not to mention, a bigger 15” display with faster refresh rates in the similar thin, light, and stylish form factor.
In addition, ROG also offers the Zephyrus M16 which in my opinion is geared toward professionals more so than gamers. While it shares some notable features and specifications with the Zephyrus G14 and G15, the Zephyrus M16 takes it a step further by offering a bigger display on the same 15” body with super thin bezels maximizing the real-estate for productivity. It also features the latest Intel processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics.
Now, if money is not an issue, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 should be on your mount Rushmore for the best gaming laptops out in the market. Featuring an innovative dual display setup, an improved one from its predecessor I should say, an outstanding HDR display with mini LED backlighting, the latest AMD processor, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics, it’s safe to say that it has pretty much everything you need.
The list doesn’t actually stop there, we also have the ROG Flow series which takes gaming on the go to the next level.
Imagine a tablet specifically made for gaming with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics. yes, that would be the ROG Flow Z13, the world’s most powerful gaming tablet, or just any tablet for that matter. And if an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3050Ti is not enough for you, you can always hook it up to a ROG XG Mobile with an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080 or an AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT. The ROG Flow Z13 features the latest Intel processor and either an NVIDIA Geforce RTX graphics or Intel Iris X.
Of course, we should not forget the ROG Flow X13 and X16 which features a 360-degree convertible design to game either via the standard laptop configuration or use the 360 hinges for a tablet/tent-like form factor. And like the ROG Flow Z3, it’s also compatible with XG Mobile. The ROG Flow X13 and X16 feature AMD processors and NVIDIA Geforce RTX Graphics.
Alright, with a brief lineup introduction, I hope you got a bit of an idea of how to differentiate between the different lineups of ROG Gaming Laptops.
Now, let’s break it down, even more, to help you relieve that anxiety from choosing the right ROG gaming laptop. Especially if you’re cramming and getting ready for the holidays. Let me break it down into 3 different categories: Budget, midrange, and premium + my personal recommendation if I were the one buying a laptop this coming ROG Share 2022.
I understand that these ROG laptops have their own tiers depending on their model but I’m going to completely ignore that and will base it only on their price. because personally, that’s how I’m going to choose. I don’t care if it’s ROG Strix, Zephyrus, or Even TUF as long as it fits a specific price range, I’m going to base it on that.
Premium Picks
Money is not an issue
ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 – Php 319,995 + Php 23,060 worth of bundled items
As I’ve pointed out earlier, if I can get whichever ROG Gaming Laptop I want, I’m definitely going for the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16. I was actually able to review the last year’s version ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 and I have to say, it’s easily one of the most innovative and powerful gaming laptops out on the market. And with some notable improvements with the Duo 16, like the better hinge design for the dual-screen feature, 16:10 ROG Nebula HDR mini LED QHD display with up to 165hz, and of course, the latest AMD Ryzen Processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX Graphics, it’s definitely featured packed.
Imagine having a built-in secondary display right at your fingertips with top-of-the-line hardware specifications, there’s really not much to ask for. The only downside is, of course, the quite massive and heavy form factor. There are two variants to choose from, one with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080ti and one with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070ti.
Both options come with a ROG Chakram X gaming mouse and a ROG Claymore II gaming keyboard alongside the out-of-the-box bundle which includes a ROG Backpack, ROG Delta Headset, ROG Chakram Core gaming mouse, and a Type C PD Adapter.
Overall bundle value
ROG Strix Scar 15 and 17 – Php 189,995 + Php 21,260 worth of bundled items
If you’re after the best bang for your buck both in terms of the capability of the gaming laptop itself and the bundled freebies that come with it, the ROG Strix Scar 15 and 17 should be on your list. What I like about the ROG Strix Scar is the good combination of up to 12th-Gen Intel Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080ti graphics to push framerates up to its rated 360hz refresh rate.
And in my opinion, the bundled TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A monitor is absolutely perfect for it, not to mention, the 2nd highest bundle value amongst all ROG Share 2022 promo.
Now, there are a lot of variants available for the ROG Strix Scar 15 and 17 and I suggest you pick one that has the best balance between display quality, processor, and graphics in relation to what your budget allows.
Personally, for the ROG Scar 15, I’ll look into the G533ZW-LN108WS. It has an AMD Ryzen i9-12900H processor with an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070Ti graphics and most importantly, it has a WQHD display with a decent 240hz refresh rate. I’ll always go for a higher-quality display over a 300hz refresh rate. Besides, 240hz is good enough in my opinion and NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070Ti is decent enough especially if you compare the price difference between it from the NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080Ti variant.
You can apply the same principles with the ROG Scar 17, again, considering your particular budget range.
Personal Choice
Zephyrus G15 – Php 159,995 + Php 14,999 worth of bundled items
I’m more of an AMD Ryzen with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX kind of guy, so naturally, I’ll lean toward the Zephyrus G15. And personally, I’ll limit my budget to around 160k because that’s only how much I’m willing to spend on a gaming laptop. With that said, I’m looking into the GA503RW-HQ080WS with a 15” WQHD display with up to 165hz refresh rate, AMD Ryzen 7-6800HS, and an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070Ti.
In terms of bundled items, the Zephyrus G15 comes with a JBL Pulse 4 Bluetooth speaker and a ROG Hoodie alongside the out-of-the-box bundle which includes a ROG Backpack, ROG Eye webcam, ROG Chakram Core and ROG Impact gaming mice and a Type C PD Adapter.
Midrange Picks
Bundle value and overall specs to performance ratio
ROG Strix G15 – Php 125,995 + Php 9,340 worth of bundled items
If you’re looking for the best value for your money both in terms of the features and capabilities of the gaming laptop itself as well as the bundled items to go along with it, the ROG Strix G15 is a good option.
For the ROG Strix G15, I’ll probably look into the G513RW-HF088W with a 15” FHD 300hz display, AMD Ryzen 7-6800H processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070Ti graphics. It’s pretty close to the Zephyrus G15 in terms of overall specifications except for the display prioritizing a higher refresh rate over high resolution. If you’ll pick a high-resolution display (WQHD) under the ROG Strix G15 lineup, you’ll have to bump your budget up to 174,995 which in my opinion now falls under the premium category.
In terms of bundle value, the ROG Strix G15 comes with a ROG Delta Code gaming headset and a ROG Eye S webcam alongside the out-of-the-box bundle that includes a ROG Backpack, ROG Impact gaming mouse, and USB Type C PD adapter.
Personal Choice
ROG Strix G17 – Php 129,995 + Php 7,800 worth of bundled items
As for my personal choice within the midrange category, I’ll probably look into the G713QR-K4201W with a 17” WQHD 165hz display, an older but still pretty decent AMD Ryzen 7-5800h, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070. Granted, I’ll sacrifice a bit in terms of the processor generation, but the Php 129,995 price tag is kinda hard to ignore if you consider the higher resolution display.
The ROG Strix G17 comes with a bundled ROG Cetra True Wireless Earbuds and a ROG Hoodie alongside the out-of-the-box bundle which includes a ROG Backpack, ROG Impact Gaming mouse, and a Type C PD Adapter.
Budget Pick
Now, this is where it becomes more interesting and to be quite honest, difficult. The budget category is always a challenge since you really have to dig deeper into the model’s differences to make sure you get the most out of your limited budget.
If you’re going to consider the bundle value, definitely go for those that will come with the JBL Flip 5 which is worth Php 6,999 but personally, I’ll probably ignore the bundled items and just focus on the specific model that matches my needs.
Display Quality Priority
ASUS TUF Dash 15 FX517ZM Models – Php 84,995 + Php 6,999 worth of bundled items
If your priority is a higher resolution display, I’ll look into the FX517ZM models with a 15” WQHD 165hz display and respectful 12th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics. Depending on the game and settings, this is good enough to push decent framerates at WQHD resolution. This model will come with a JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker a TUF Gaming Backpack and a P304 TUF Gaming M5 V2 gaming mouse.
Now, if you want to make sure the performance is decent enough for up to 165hz at WQHD resolution, you might want to bump up your budget and look into the FX507ZR-HQ033W which features the latest 12th-Gen Intel Core i7-12700H processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070. But that would push your budget way above 100k and closer to the ROG Strix G17 that I mentioned earlier with a bigger screen and arguably a better overall value since it’s a ROG product. This model will also come with a JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker a TUF Gaming Backpack and a P304 TUF Gaming M5 V2 gaming mouse.
Performance Priority
ASUS TUF Dash FX516PR Models – Php 83,560 + Php 2,000 worth of bundled items
If you don’t care about high-resolution gaming and you just want the absolute competitive gaming edge, I’ll look into the FX516PR Models with a 15” FHD 144hz display, 11th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, and most importantly, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics in a more affordable Php 83k to 92k price range. Granted, the processor is last gen, but if you consider the overall value you’re getting from their price tags, it’s really worth considering.
You can also consider a couple of options from the FX517ZR models with 12th-Gen Intel Core i5 processors with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics.
And there you have it guys, I hope after reading this relatively lengthy recommendation article, I was able to guide you and narrow your choices down depending on your personal preference and budget.
